Background


       In early April, Carl Robins, the new campus recruiter for ABC, Inc., successfully recruited 15 new trainees to work for Monica Carrolls, the Operations Supervisor.  This being Carl’s first recruitment effort, he did not take into consideration the basic timeline when it came to the new hire process.  With hopes of having the new hires ready to work on June 15 he laid out a foundation for things to be done, but did not provide a plan or schedule for having these things done.  With the thought of, “It will get done,” Carl waited until one month before his deadline to follow-up on the process and found that very little had been done to ensure that he met his deadline.  Good clear opening that lays out the issues for a reader.

Key Problems

       One obvious key factor in not being able to reach his expected goal, having the new employees ready to begin work on July 15, is Carl’s lack of planning.  This being his first endeavor of a mass hiring, he did not have all the knowledge and experience needed to properly accomplish the process.  Some key factors in which could have been addressed early on are:

•    The training schedule
•    Orientation
•    Manuals
•    Policy booklets
•    Physicals
•    Drug tests

These were seen as key components in getting the process underway.
